Notes
- The maximum legal size available for legal use in Australia is 200W. eLation also has 300W and 500W systems.
- LiFePO4 are the most advanced battery available at present. DO NOT confuse them with normal Lithium Ion (Li Ion) packs.
- Brushless tend to be lower maintenance and more efficient motors. Internal controllers ensure a matched system and better controller protection.
- Planetary gearing tends to be more efficient and quieter than Spur gearing.
- The eLation system allows the bike to keep and use ALL the bikes original gears
- The elation system uses standard 64/10 BCD gear rings as found on expensive bikes. This allows the rider to combine any ratio of gearing they desire. It also means third party rings can be purchased based on the rider's budget and usage.
- It is important for motor to freewheel when not in use so as to not add unnecessary drag to rider.
- It is important for pedal to freewheel when the motor is in use, otherwise the motor is limited to the rider's pedal speed. there is also an issue of safety if the motor is accidentally powered the rider can be "shot off" the bike.
- Most bikes now used sealed crank spindle and bearings. These need to be swapped out with other systems to longer, much cheaper crank spindles to allow the motor to fit.
